Commitment?!

Commitment. What do you think when you heard the word? I have been wanting to write this post since I said,

“Committing to a person in marriage life is much easier than committing to a lesson to be studied. At least you like the person you are marrying, unlike the lessons. Whether you like it or not, you have to at least read it to do well in the exams.”

As usual, every single time I make a “controversial” statement, universe shows me the opposite. I was going to write and gathered some arguments to support my saying, but then I, myself, have to oppose it.

Committing to a person is indeed a difficult task. There are times, when it seems like nothing could ever go wrong, like you’re living the dream. A smile that could wash away all the sweat from struggling in the kitchen. A laugh that drown all the tears from those lonely nights. A hug that calmed down anger from other events. Or even a simple “I love you” seems like a promise that s/he would bring you a happily-ever-after life.

Yet commitment does not mean standing by his/her side in happy moments only. It also means staying there when s/he is going through some harsh stuff, be someone to lean on. We have to be there no matter what, though we got nothing to say regarding the matters. Commitment also means that we have to stay there even when s/he becomes a pain in the ass. Commitment makes us stay together in any condition possible.

For me, it is harder than committing to a lesson. If I don’t like a lesson, I could simply read it when I need, then forget it. I just need a DD to be able to pass it anyway. When you try to commit to a person, you definitely can’t do that. If you want to do that, you could stop saying “I am committed to someone” and could simply say “I had a one night stand”.

Don’t be afraid though. Compromise is what comes along with commitment. We better not make a blind commitment to anything, not even to our most beloved one. Lack of compromise could bring an end to a commitment, so if we want it to last forever, do it smart, people!
